The Inquiry Opens
The year is 2099. For twenty-two years, the world has been divided into two existences — Earth, and Development. What began as a technological marvel has become the defining question of the age: was Dev a liberation or a trap? A new beginning or the end of something irreplaceable?
The Inquiry is a global tribunal, convened to examine the full history of Dev — how it was built, by whom, for what purpose, and at what cost. Over the weeks that follow, a story will emerge that spans eight decades and touches every corner of the human world.
This is that story. Read what happened to the world. Then read what happened to us.
Recurring Characters
Tariku Negasi — The Ethiopian visionary who created Development. To some, a modern messiah. To others, something darker.
The Invaders — Six elite operatives who built Dev from the shadows: Basira Karim (The Engineer), Alexei Volkov (The Rogue), Mateo Diaz (The Strategist), Amara Diop (The Voice), Spectre (The Ghost), Cipher (The Enforcer).
Pastor Joshua Aremu — Nigerian pastor and Negasi's most vocal opponent. Leader of New Life Assembly. The voice of those who stayed.
Kwadwo Bouamah — Journalist on Dev. Our narrator for the World As We Know It. Believer, by choice.
The chapters that follow are both macro and intimate — the sweep of history and the texture of individual lives. They do not always agree with each other. That is the point.
The Man Tariku Negasi
This chapter explores the early life, vision and rise of Tariku Negasi — the Ethiopian genius who would reshape the world. From his childhood in Addis Ababa to the laboratories where he first conceived of Development as not merely a technology but a new covenant between humanity and possibility.
